#1: Cage is constructed primarily by welding bars to cage body rather than drilling holes in a hollow tube. What is the advantage? Well, over time, as you clean your cage, if the bars are drilled through the hollow tube (not Featherland Cages), then over time the water from the mere cleaning of the cage builds up inside these 60-120 holes until the metal starts rusting from the inside out. Featherland cages use welding rather than drilling holes to stabilize the cage. Stronger, easier to clean, and more attractive. A real piece of quality furniture. A bit more expensive, but these cages will outlast any cage on the market, as much as 5-8 years longer.
#2 Most cages use unsightly screws, nuts and bolts to put their cages together. Not Featherland. They use a patented locking system, free of nuts and bolts, that adds strength as well as beauty-nice clean lines down the side of the cage, and no screws or bolts for the birds to chew, reducing the chance a metal toxicity. Also, they have a great online video for easy assembly of this cage, as well as an online manual ( if you prefer to read rather than look)
#3: All cages include a seed guard that, unlike many competitors, can be easily installed and removed without taking the cage apart.
#4: Featherland cages use a minimum of 4 inches between the grill and the pan. Why? To reduce the chances of the birds reaching their feet down and picking up litter, spoiled food, and/or poop. Also, to prevent the bird from crawling into that 4 inch space they are playing on the cage (or when you remove the grill to clean the cage) Featherland has cleverly put a 4 inch apron around the outside of the cage to prevent the potential mischievous intruder.
#5: Cages have self locking parrot proof doors- the best around
#6: Also comes with adjustable, swivel hangers
#7: Cages have the best casters we have seen - heavy duty, locking, plastic (not rubber) wheels. Birds tend to eat the rubber wheels over time.
#8: For the best (and last) cage you will ever buy, splurge for the Stainless Steel. No chance of any metal toxicity, recommended by all avian vets over any powder coated cage. On any powder coated cage, the bird is 100% safe. However, if the bird chews through the powder coating, then the bird could potentially get metal poisoning from the underlying wrought iron. No chance of this happening with stainless steel.
#9: Finally, we recommend dome top cages for many reasons: birds tend to get aggressive when on top at their cage (playing on a playtop cage, for instance) and when they are above your eye level. Both are true when you allow your bird to either play on top of a playpen top cage. Second, dometop cages provide significantly more play and living room inside the cage. Better to get a separate playstand or natural wood perch-your bird will be less aggressive, happier, and get better exercise.
